We were pleased to hear from Isobel Flanagan, OH 2012-17, who has recently completed her qualified teaching status (QTS) and in September 2024, will have her own class of Year 3 pupils to teach.
After leaving Hymers in Year 11, I went to Wyke College to complete my A Levels (English Lit, Health & Social Care & Criminology). After college, I chose to do a gap year in 2019-20 before starting university. I started at the University of Hull in 2020, studying Education Studies with Special Educational Needs, Disabilities & Inclusion (SENDI).
I graduated with my undergraduate degree in 2023 with a 2:1. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher so in September 2023, I started a teaching course, Hull School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT), now changed to Vantage, ages 5-11 Primary Teaching. I have completed two placements on this course, as well as my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
I received my QTS in July 2024 and graduated with my PGCE in Primary Education. My host placement offered me a job in Year 3 from September, so I'm looking forward to beginning my first Early Career Teacher (ECT) Year.
Good luck, Isobel!
