Throughout Lucy Jone's (OH 2011-2021) time at Hymers, sport and tennis in particular played a huge role in her life. She captained the 1st Team and competed regularly at weekends. Over the last 18 months, however, she has transitioned into Padel, the fastest-growing sport in the UK, and has climbed the rankings to reach a high of 12 in the UK. Alongside training and competing, she balances a full-time career at Nestlé as a National Account Manager, where she is responsible for the Waitrose confectionery account - selling KitKats during the week and competing on court at weekends. Keep an eye out for Lucy as her achievements so far are:
12 in UK LTA Rankings
iPadel National Champion
2 x LTA Grade 1 Semi-Finals
4 x LTA Grade 2 Runner-up
Reached round of 16 at FIP Silver International Event
I’m grateful for the discipline, competitiveness and desire to succeed that Hymers instilled in me, which has played a huge role in getting me to where I am today. Sport at Hymers was always a big part of my school experience, alongside my A Levels in Business, Economics and PE, which have helped shape both my professional and sporting careers.
This year, I’m aiming to take my padel career even further by gaining sponsorship to support competing in national and international events, as well as training in leading padel nations such as Spain, as I work towards my goal of breaking into the UK top 10.
