Jonathan Dunning-Davies (OH 1987-97) visited the School to tell us about his new job with Border Force in the Northern Surge Team. The team is made up of experienced officers providing mutual aid to other sites such as Heathrow Airport, Manchester Airport and Gatwick Airport, and the juxtaposed controls in France, Belgium and Holland, as well as intercepting small boats of illegal immigrants off the south coast.  The role will allow him to spend more time with his young daughter as it operates with a week on/week off rota.  Deployments can be last minute across the country in this challenging but rewarding role.

While visiting Hymers College, Jonathan reminisced about his favourite teachers: Mr Grayson, Mr Trewartha, Mr Tordoff and Dr (Doc) Wilson. He is still in touch with Victoria Bastiman and Fiona Newbould (both OH's 1989-96), Amy Wilson (OH 1990-97), and Tom Canty (OH 1987-97), as well as others through social media.

Jonathan has many happy memories of his time at Hymers College, sometimes up to mischief but his favourite times were when he was in the Sixth Form. In the JCR he used to do the Times 2 crossword at break time, at lunchtime play baseball and occasionally walk to Butties and Buns on Princess Avenue for a 50p portion of chips.

Good luck in your new role, Jonathan!
