The Development Team hosted their last Drinks Night of the academic year in Manchester on Thursday 20 April (2023).  They were joined by Headmaster, Justin Stanley and alumni that either worked or lived in the local area.

Former Head of History and fencing coach, David Vanstone (OH Staff 1985 - 1990) attended the evening.  After leaving Hymers, he became Deputy Headmaster at Stafford Grammar School, before becoming Headmaster for 17 years at North Cestrian Grammar School.

Newly weds, Michael Chu and Miriam Bennett also attended the evening and caught up with classmates Gaurav Dhawan and Tom Eadington.  Daniel Finestein and Matthew Halsall also attended Hymers College together in the 1970s but lost touch after leaving the school.  They were not aware that they now lived in the Manchester area.

There was a strong contingency from the class of '95 with James Newman, Tim Wooldridge and Emily from the Development Office sharing funny memories.

Many thanks again for organising the event last Thursday. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great to not only re-connect with some old friends who I was previously unaware were based in Manchester, but also to re engage with Hymers, which still holds some fantastic memories for us both.

I look forward to attending similar events in the future if the opportunity arises and I will certainly be encouraging some of my old school friends who are based around the country to do the same. Hopefully we will be able to organise to attend to an Old Hymerians dinner in the near future.

Just a quick note to thank you for travelling across the Pennines and giving a warm welcome yesterday in Manchester. It was great to meet Mr Stanley too. I'd certainly recommend these events to even the most "inactive" OH - you're bound to find things to reminisce about.
