On a warm and windy Saturday, we welcomed 60 Old Hymerians back to school for a wonderful BBQ reunion. It was a delight to see groups forming their own mini‑reunion with two tables of friends from 40 years ago, another from 30 years ago, and a group of young women celebrating 20 years since they left. A handful of guests had not been back to School for over 60 years and this was their first trip back to Yorkshire for some. We were pleased to see former teaching staff Andrew Penny, Neil King and Peter Bingham who were familiar faces to many.
We hosted drinks in the old gym, overlooking the Quad, with background music performed by our current students. Headmaster, Mr Stanley welcomed back our visitors before we ate and our guests enjoyed updates of Hymers in 2026 Our senior prefects did us proud, joining our former students for a BBQ lunch. A huge thank you goes to our in‑house chef, Tom, for a fantastic meal and his staff for waiting on on a Saturday.
After lunch, Old Hymerians delved in the school ledger and archive material before taking in a nostalgic tour of the school and shared countless stories with our students. The day was full of conversation, laughter, and anecdotes, with many carrying on well into the early evening, some in their Sixth Form pub of choice - just to say they had!
We were thrilled to welcome visitors from across the globe, as well as those who made a weekend of it, travelling from Scotland, London, North Yorkshire, Suffolk, and beyond.
It was a pleasure to welcome everyone back and we hope to see you all again soon.
