This year's garden party was held on a sunny June day and we were delighted to welcome back Old Hymerians and their families. It was lovely to catch up with some of our regular faces, including John Clayton, OH 1972-79, Edward Clark, OH 1950-58, Jonathan Clark, OH 1980-90, Mark Bentley, OH 1971-79 and Duncan Hider, OH 1983-93.
We were delighted to see Percy Little, OH 1949-56, sporting his full colours tie for cricket, that he recently received at the last alumni lunch in May.
During the day, alumni took up the opportunity to go on one of the three tours of the school that were carried out, showing their families where they spent their formative years. For Paul Willerton, OH 1950-56, this was his first time returning to the school since he left nearly 70 years ago. He was joined by Jim Munday, OH 1951-59, to reminisce about the mischief they caused while at school. It was also the first time that Hugh Crosland, OH 1976-84 had returned to the school. Other returning faces included Al Brookes-Plowman, OH 1986-92, Amy Elliott, OH 2007-14, Natalia Gryskowska, OH 2009-11 and Steve Coldray, OH 1982-91.
This year's annual Old Hymerians v Hymers 1st XI cricket match was held infrom of the new electronic scoreboard and resulted in success to the Old Hymerians, who won by 58 runs, scoring 206 for 9, with 30 overs. Captained by Max Brocklesby OH 2012-22, with Finn Starky OH 2013-23 as the wicket keeper, the team included Jonathan Clark, OH 1980-1990, George Clark OH 2011-21, Tom Noble OH 2002-12, Amit Chawla OH 2000-10, Methum Weerasekera OH 2014-24, Mahir Yousuff, OH 2002-12, Dan Leather, OH 2000-10, Matt Fitzpatrick OH 2004-12, Henry Sweeting OH 2006-16 and Chris Blucke OH 2003-10.
