At the start of May 2025, 45 giant rats arrived across Hull and East Yorkshire as part of the latest sculpture trail in the area.  A Mischief of Rats was inspired by Hull band The Rats, who were prominent on the local music scene in the late 60s and early 70s.  Lead guitarist, Mick Ronson, went on to become more famous as one of the David Bowie's 'Spiders from Mars' alongside local musicians, drummer 'Woody' Woodmansey and bassist Trevor Bolder.

Sadly, both Mick and Trevor died of cancer at just 46 and 62 years old respectively, and so it is fitting that the trail is raising much needed money for the Daisy Appeal, a local charity focusing on the early diagnosis of cancers, heart disease and dementia.

Supporting the sculpture trail is Jon Seth, OH 1975-85, whose company, Riverside QS Services Ltd, are sponsoring 'Ronno Rat'.  Along with three colleagues, Jon set up the company 10 years ago and specialises in providing professional quantity surveying and measurement services to all sectors of the construction industry.

The rats will be on display at locations across Hull and the East Riding until the end of August 2025, when many of the sculptures will be auctioned off to raise money for the Daisy Appeal.

If you would like to join the fun and follow the trail, the Find a Rat! App is available from the App Store and Google Play (please remember to include the exclamation mark in your search).
