This morning, you may have turned on the tap without a second thought - yet in places like Bomet County, Kenya, clean water, safe sanitation & good hygiene are still out of reach for most families. Famous for producing Olympian runners and world-class coffee and tea, Bomet is also a place where two out of three people lack clean water, safe sanitation & good hygiene. As a result, waterborne disease remains one of the leading killers of children under five. Beyond the immediate health crisis, time lost to sickness and the long walks to fetch water mean children miss school and parents lose vital income. And the burden falls heaviest on women and girls. To change this, Dig Deep are working hand in hand with local communities, business and the Kenyan government to serve Bomet's one million people - half of whom are children. Together, they are determined to ensure every child and their family gain lasting access to clean water, safe sanitation & good hygiene.
Im incredibly excited to share that in the upcoming year, I’ll be taking on the challenge of hiking Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, alongside AtkinsRéalis, in support of DigDeep. 🏔️
I’ll be aiming to raise £3,500 to help provide clean water, safe sanitation and good hygiene for the one million people living in Bomet County, Kenya. Access to clean water and sanitation can have a huge impact on people’s health, education and livelihoods, and I’m proud to be able to support DigDeep’s work.
I think a lot of my desire to volunteer and help others comes from my time at Hymers. The opportunities I had to get involved in different activities and travels opened my eyes to the wider world and to experiences and communities beyond my own. I’m really grateful that Hymers encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, try new things and, most importantly, think about how I could use those experiences to make a difference to others.
If you’re able to donate, any amount would be hugely appreciated and will help me get closer to my £3,500 target.
Thank you so much!
