As part of Year 6 English lessons, our students wrote letters to Old Hymerians and on a sunny morning in June, they opened their replies! Whilst sat in the sun, the students took the time to read their responses and learn more about the history of the School from those that had been at Hymers before them.
One student excitedly told us "My letter is from my friend's Dad" and another spotted their 'penpal', Mrs Pennack from the Development Office, who was helping to hand out the letters! Students exchanged facts with each other about their Old Hymerian - with many asking when they can write back. The students also heard about the introduction of girls at Hymers, memories of the Disneyland Paris trip to celebrate the School's centenary, as well as school without a theatre and swimming pool!
It is clear from reading both the students and the Old Hymerian letters that both have a passion for the School that continues through generations.
Students enjoyed receiving hand written letters and photos, as well as a few treats such as a signed book ! Thank you to all Old Hymerians who take part in this wonderful annual project.
