Pupils across the Junior School came together on Wednesday, 21 October, to mark Founder's and Benefactors' Day, celebrating the rich history, strong sense of community, and bright future of Hymers College. The festivities began with dedicated Founder’s and Benefactors' Day assemblies for the Lower and Upper Juniors, giving children an opportunity to reflect on the school's heritage since its opening in 1893 and what it truly means to be a Hymerian.
Adding color and enthusiasm to the occasion, pupils participated in a non-uniform day to raise vital money for the John Hymers Bursary Fund. Meanwhile, the school was filled with sweet treats as children put their baking skills to the test in the "A Cake Fit for Hymers" competition, crafting impressive cakes inspired by the college's traditions and history.Throughout the day, each year group tackled the "I Am Proud to Be a Hymerian" challenge, exploring the school's past and their own place in its ongoing story.
The youngest pupils drew pictures of their favorite school moments and shared why they love being at Hymers, classrooms collaborated on lists of what makes their school special and illustrated ways to be kind, helpful community members. Children reflected on Hymers "Then and Now," comparing modern school life to 1893, and wrote short pieces about their pride in the school.Older juniors wrote welcoming letters to future pupils and shared their hopes for the school's future, considering how they can help make those dreams a reality.
Selected work from each year group will soon be showcased on a special Founder's and Benefactors' Day display, celebrating not just the history of Hymers College, but the unique part every pupil plays in its continuing story.
