Su recently spoke to our Biology Society over Zoom, to share her career in Physio so far.

She attended Hymers College from 1991 to 1996 and was Head Girl in her final year.  After school, she went on to study Physiotherapy at Leeds Metropolitan University, where she gained a first, and later on studied for a Master of Science in Sports and Exercise Medicine at Queen Mary University of London.

Su now has over 20 years of musculoskeletal physiotherapy experience in both the NHS and private sectors, and has worked for professional teams such as London Broncos RLFC, Saracens RUFC and The Great Britain Rowing Team.

During her chat, Su encouraged the students to make the most of the extra-curricular activities on offer at Hymers, as it will help with university applications in the future.  Su herself had a keen interest in drama and sports, including hockey, which gave her the opportunity to travel to Canada with the school team in 1993.

We asked Su about her memories of Hymers College:

So many fond memories....where to start....Geography field trips with Mr Aldred and Mrs Wright were always a highlight...especially the Switzerland trip during A-levels.

Performing in Guys & Dolls in the then newly opened Judy Dench Theatre (despite me not being able to sing).  Quote Mr King " Just belt it out Su - it'll be fine, just don't lose your voice!"

1993 Hockey tour to Canada - we were the first girls ever to tour so it was a big deal for the us and the school. We definitely paved the way for subsequent generations of girls through Hymers!! Much more equal now!
