We were delighted to welcome back William de Braal, OH 2008-18 to chat with our aspiring Economists recently. William provided the students with some valuable information about working on a trading floor and what his day-to-day role as a trader involves.

After leaving Hymers College in 2018, William continued his studies at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he gained a Bachelor's degree in Economics.  After three years in the Netherlands, he returned to the UK to study for a Masters in Finance at Imperial College London, where he gained a Distinction.

William encouraged our students to make tailor-made applications to each business to strengthen the chances of getting an interview and the importance of making their CVs stand out in a tough market of multiple applicants.  He also encouraged them to pursue any coding skills as knowledge of AI or coding would help them with stand-out applications.  He also kindly offered any further one-on-one support to any student who may be considering a similar career pathway in the future.

William shared with the students how his love of Maths and Economics at Hymers helped shape his career choices.  He was able to explain to those who were considering Investment Banking or Trading the main differences he had found. and the reasons for his preference for working on a trading floor.

He was also delighted to hear from his former teacher from Hymers, Mr Mutter who passed on his best with a message from B1!

Thanks, William. We appreciated your time and knowledge, as did our Year 12 and 13 students.
