After leaving Hymers College in 2011, Thomas studied music performance at the Royal Academy of Music, gaining a 2:1, before studing a Master's Degree there.

He received the Zara Nelsova Trust Award towards his postgraduate studies and is a recipient of a much coveted Help Musicians Postgraduate Scholarship.

Thomas began playing at the age of eight and by the age of 15, he was awarded a highly sought after scholarship to study at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester.

Thomas made his professional concerto debut at the age of 19 years old, performing the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra to critical acclaim. He has had success in numerous competitions including being a finalist in the prestigious Royal Academy of Music Brahms Competition as well as receiving a diploma from Stockholm International Music Competition and third prize in the "Grand Virtuoso Prize" competition.

After university he performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician in festivals in Europe and the USA including Heifetz International Music Institute in Virginia and the Aurora Festival in Sweden.

Since 2018, he has performed as principal cellist in Accademia Teatro alla Scala. In December 2020 he took on a position in the Slovak State Phiharmonic Orchestra in Kosice.
