Fondly Remembered |
We were saddened to hear of the passing of John Tranmer, OH 1968-75, who died in March 2018, at the age of 60 years old He always had fond memories of his time at Hymers College.
After leaving Hymers, John studied and gained his M.A.degree in history at Cambridge University. He then went on to gain a PGCE at Lancaster. He decided at this point to have a break from the world of education and joined the Nationwide Building Society in Hull as a trainee manager where he met his wife to be, Sandra.
In 1982 they moved to the Isle of Anglesey where John taught history and R.E at the Indefatigable, a school for the sons of families who were in the forces, based on the shores of the Menai Straits. Following a happy four years on Anglesey, John had a break from teaching and joined GCHQ in Cheltenham. After two years he returned to teaching as Head of History and also taught R.E. at Parkside School in Stoke'Abernon, Surrey. He then moved to Leeds in 1991 to take up the post of Headmaster at the Froebelian School in Horsforth where he remained for twenty four years until he retired in 2015. John and Sandra have two children, Charlotte and Edward.
