Old Hymerian, Michael Barton (1941-1948)

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Michael Barton (OH1941-1948).  Michael grew up in Cottingham and attended Hymers with his brother Richard Barton (1936-1942) who in recent years has been back to School. Michael was relocated to Market Weighton in the war and Richard was in Pocklington.

Michael was the first Managing Editor of BBC Radio Sheffield when it launched in 1967. He held an extremely successful BBC career and tributes have described him as a pioneer who helped establish the sound and purpose of local radio beyond London voices.

Our thoughts are with Michael's family at this very sad time. Much love from Hymers Avenue.
