The sun was shining for our May lunch and we were delighted to welcome some new faces, as well as catching up with our regular alumni. Returning to the school for the first time since leaving in 1956, Peter Cowling, OH 1950-56 attended. alongside his former classmates from 70 years ago.
Also taking a trip down memory lane was David Heron, OH 1968-74, who has only returned to the school once before, since leaving over 50 years ago. He donated rugby photos from his time at the school, which can now be seen in the Archive and will soon be added to our Name That Face digital photo archive.
Percy Little, OH 1949-56 finally received the recognition that he was denied nearly 70 years ago. In his final year at school, Percy missed out on receiving his full colours as he had been selected to play for the Old Hymerians cricket team instead, due to his excellent skills in the sport. This wrong was finally rectified, as Richard Gore, OH 1958-66 presented Percy with a full colours tie and certificate, signed by current Headmaster, Justin Stanley.
Before lunch, Year 10 students who recently returned from this year's Battlefields Tour for History, shared with the guests the details from their trip and how they had looked for Old Hymerians who lost their lives there. During lunch, there was also a musical interlude from students, showcasing skills on the piano, saxophone and singing.
