Last guests standing at the end of a successful night!

This year's annual dinner took place on Saturday, 7 September 2024. Over 100 alumni and staff, past and present, came together for the event.  The evening started with drinks in The Gore (Old Gymnasium), since the weather was against us this year, before guests made their way to the great gothic hall to enjoy a three-course dinner.

The new President of the Old Hymerian Association, Duncan Hider, OH 1983-93, welcomed guests to the evening and spoke about his time at the school.  It turns out that the folklore about the accident many years ago when a goose met an unfortunate end after an incident with a javelin was in fact a true story, as it related to one of Duncan's classmates!

He was followed by Headmaster, Justin Stanley, who talked about the recent exam successes over the summer, along with future challenges that the school will face over the next few years.  Returning teachers this year included former Senior Mistress, Mrs ChorltonMr King and Mr Penny.

This year, the dinner was catered by the school's new catering team, Holroyd Howe and received many glowing comments about the food that they served.

Andrew Edwards (OH 1975-1985) was this year's Master of Ceremonies and interviewed our 'In the hot seat' guest, Susan Harper-Clarke, OH 1991-96.  Su was supported by some of her former classmates at the dinner; Amitava Banerjee, OH 1986-96, Victoria Bastiman, OH 1989-96, Greg Bone, OH 1986-96, Jeremy Campbell, OH 1986-96, Nigel Coyle, OH 1986-96, Vic Strickland, OH 1989-96, Fiona Tannock, OH 1989-96 and Julia Watts, OH 1989-96.

The evening was rounded off by music teacher, Mr Shepherd's band, CubaDrive, providing lively entertainment in the old gym as alumni danced the evening away.  Since the event, we have received many emails praising his band and the fun atmosphere that it created.

Thank you to all our speakers and guests for attending the evening.  The date for next year’s dinner will be Saturday 20 September 2025.  Further details will be confirmed next year – we’d love to see you there!

Feedback:

Fun evening, great to see the teachers!

It was a great evening. Good to have the option to go to the Gore after the dinner. It was great fun and I really appreciated the chance to get together with old friends.

Splendid welcome thanks and also to your team.  Good conversation at Dinner.

We very much enjoyed the evening last week; in particular the food and the band were excellent!

The music afterwards with dancing and networking in the bar really rounded off the evening well. The band were great.

Love that the goose javelin story is real!

And finally, once again, thank you to our sponsor for the evening, Leafe Consultancy.
