This year's annual dinner was an electrifying event, thanks to the passing electrical storm.  The rain at the start of the evening did nothing to dampen the spirits and luckily cleared before too many of the guests had arrived, leaving behind the atmospheric flashes in the sky.

Former students and staff were welcomed back to the school and it was great to see so many new faces among the more familiar ones.  The returning teachers this year included the recently retired Mr Exley, along with Mrs Chorlton, Mr King, Mr Penny, Mr Fitzpatrick, Mr Grayson, Mr Nicholls, Mrs May, Mr Meadway and Mrs Riley.

Celebrating 30 years since leaving the school, there were two tables from the Class of 1993 in attendance.

The dinner also saw the reveal of the additional 30 names to our now 'Hymers 130 Most Notable', with several, including Adam Michaels, Suneil Setiya and Sarah Rule, in the audience.

Will Hairsine, OH 1992-1997 and President of the Old Hymerian Association, welcomed guests to the evening, which this year had a military theme.

Andrew Edwards (OH 1975-1985) was this year's Master of Ceremonies and interviewed our 'In the hot seat' guests.  Braving the heat in their military uniform, guest speakers for the evening were Major Will Hearnshaw AAC (OH 1997-2007) and Flight Lieutenant Jacob Cameron-Johnson (OH 2004-2013)

Thank you to all our speakers and to our guests for attending the evening.  The date for next year’s dinner will be Saturday 7 September 2024. Further details will be confirmed next year – we’d love to see you there!

Feedback:

Great evening on Saturday, excellent organisation by you and your team, food good and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Well done to all of you, it was a first class evening. I much enjoyed the Dinner and I appreciated the chance to wear my miniatures, so thank you for the theme which worked well.

I just wanted to say thank you for the organisation of last night’s dinner. It was a really good evening and such a pleasure to see so many past pupils there.

Thanks for last night, Emily - most enjoyable. Please pass on my thanks to the rest of the team.

It was another splendid evening with a lot of style and very good dinner.  Organising these events isn’t easy and the weather plays a part as well as we saw last Saturday.

Thank you for your and colleagues’ hard work in organising the event. It was a tremendous success. We enjoyed the evening immensely.

Just to say how much I enjoyed the OH Dinner on Friday evening, spending time with former colleagues, old friends and some new contacts as well.

I much appreciated chatting with the Chairman, and also the Headmaster's speech, which was most informative on the challenges the school presently faces, yet nonetheless provided hope and confidence for the future.

I very much enjoyed last Saturday. As well as catching up with a few regular faces, there were two school mates I hadn’t seen for over 40 years with who it was good to reacquaint (even though I would not have recognised either if we’d passed in the street!).

The old school, particularly the main hall, is a beautiful location…..something maybe not fully appreciated back in the day.

Many thanks to you and your colleagues for organising the dinner. I suspect some guests may not fully appreciate the full extent of the work involved!

Thank you to the team for both organising the event and inviting me down. It was a fantastic evening and I’ll definitely be trying to round up a group of my pals for one in the future.

And finally, once again, thank you to our sponsors for the evening; Rollits LLP, Leafe Consultancy and Lexus Hull.
