What is 'Name That Face'?

This is a unique website that will allow you to log in and view a selection of photographs from our archive. The software enables you to ‘tag’ photographs meaning if you see yourself, or any of your classmates, you can add names to the faces in the photo. As part of our commitment to preserve our rich history, we have introduced this new platform that will allow us to enhance our records enabling a greater reach across our Old Hymerian community.

I knew that this addition to our archives would enrich the Old Hymerian experience to take a walk back in time. It is always inspiring to learn about the school's rich history and legacy spanning over 130 years and as we connect with more of our alumni community we learn more.   We were thrilled to connect with over 40 alumni in the first few hours asking for passwords to see if they could find themselves and their former classmates and we have been delighted with the feedback so far.

Emily Pennack, Development Manager
OH 1989-95

How do I log in?

You will need to email oldhymerians@hymers.org to request a log in username and password. As the website contains pictures from our school history, only former students and staff will be granted permissions to log on. Please do not worry if we need to verify a few extra details, this is just part of our checking process to ensure we are only issuing passwords to people who we are confident are genuinely affiliated with the school.

How do I tag a photo?
Once you have logged in you can browse the photo albums. Click on a photo to make it larger and you will notice that the faces have been highlighted by the software. From here you can suggest a name by typing this in the box at the bottom and clicking the blue Suggest button.

If someone has already visited the photo and suggested a name it will appear in the box. You can select this name and then click the blue Suggest box, this will then add your vote to the name. If you disagree with the name suggested, simply add the name of the person whom you believe it to be and click Suggest. This name will be added to the list for others to add their vote to.

What do I do if the year is wrong?

We hold many photos in our archive. Whilst we have done our best to categorise the photos into the correct decades inevitably there will be mistakes. Fashion, hairstyles and the constant of a school hall, which has remained true to its original décor, doesn’t always make
things easy for a quick game of guess the year! If you believe the decade is wrong, or even better, can provide us with an exact year, please send a screenshot of the photograph to oldhymerians@hymers.org along with the amended year.

Why can’t I tag a face?

The software is very intuitive, however, we cannot guarantee every face has been detected within each photo. If there is a face which you are not able to tag, please send a screenshot of the photograph to oldhymerians@hymers.org along with the name of the person and we can manually add the name.

We hope you enjoy this extension of our digital archives. We value our archives and are extremely grateful for anything we have been sent which we can include in them, however, we are always on the lookout for more. We collect any material concerning the history
of the School: programmes, brochures, photographs, school reports, uniform, badges, etc. We would be grateful for donations of any Hymers memorabilia from across the years to enhance our collection.

If you have any photographs or items from your time at school, we’d love to see them and share them with the school community. You don’t have to part with any treasured pictures, you can just take a photograph and send by email to oldhymerians@hymers.org with any
relevant dates and descriptions. Or, if you’re happy to pop anything in the post, we’ll gladly receive it.

Feedback Received:

It is quite remarkable to realise just how long ago it was that I was there!! It’s very interesting.

Well, I have been trawling through the form photos and dredging up memories of names I had long forgotten, though I do have two good friends from those days, 50 years ago! I'll have to get them involved, and see who they remember

Many thanks for this - I'm already enjoying it.  So far I've looked at some of the Rugby photos.

Thank you so much. I found myself … Upper VI Science 2B 1969.  What a blast …
