John Fairest studied at Hymers College from 1975 until completing his O Levels in 1982.  After leaving Hymers College, he ended up working in the utility sector.

I managed three treatment works on the Essex coast and then moved into the gas electric sector.  In the last 20 years, I become more involved in the web developer field and this month (August 2023), I am sponsoring Lincoln Business Club and talking about WordPress and Google etc.

I became a mature student at Regents College undertaking a BA in theology and last year, I was recognised as a group expert by Web Squadron.

Outside of work, John met Nathan Wilson through church, and during the lockdown period, they were both involved in getting food out to the community.  In October 2021, Nathan set up Dads Advocates, a Not For Profit Organisation challenging attitudes, barriers, and gender inequalities for Dads, with John becoming a director.

When parents go their separate ways there is a significant challenge for fathers.  Dads Advocates provides an advocates system in the court process along with a support network, online explanation direction, and guidance in handling the situations fathers may encounter.  The legal process and effective mentorship is an area that Dads often need and we have over 800 plus fathers subscribed to the system.

This year, they have been nominated as finalists and recognised by Lincolnshire Business Awards and Newark Business Awards, where they won highly commended in the best innovation category. For them, however, the key isn't business success, it's the fathers spending time with their children.

This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team of volunteers who have been tirelessly supporting over 700 separated dads and their children.

At Dads Advocates, we believe that every father deserves the opportunity to have a safe, consistent, and meaningful relationship with their children. We understand the challenges that separated dads face and we are committed to providing them with the support and resources they need to navigate this difficult time.

This award is not just a recognition of our organisation, but it is also a recognition of the separated dads who are desperate to have a relationship with their children. We are grateful for the opportunity to serve them and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that they receive the recognition and support they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. We could not have achieved this without your help and encouragement. We are excited to continue our work and make a positive impact in the lives of separated dads and their children.
