Platinum Jubilee Stories: Medical Director, Christopher Day

Her Majesty opened Chesterfield Royal Hospital and met with the Medical Director and Old Hymerian, Christopher Day.

As the Medical Director of the newly opened Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Christopher Day, OH 1949 to 1959, met the Queen at the beginning of April 1985 when she officially opened the new hospital.  The hospital had opened its doors and took its first patients the year before on 29 April 1984. The Queen was shown around a number of wards and departments after unveiling the obligatory plaque. A bouquet was presented to her by a patient from Intensive Care, who had been wheeled to the corridor outside ICU in his bed.
