We were thrilled to welcome Storm Dominique Hayward (2003- 2012) back to Hymers to talk to our Sixth Form Engineering Society.

Whilst at Hymers Storm studied Maths (A*); Further Maths (A); French (A); Physics (A); Product Design (B) which helped secure her next step on her Engineering career path. Storm graduated from Bath University with a 1st Class Honours in Civil Engineering and is now working as a Senior Structural Engineer at Buro Harrold. Aftter completing an Industrial placement here during her studies, she then joined Buro Harrold in a graduate role over 7 years ago.

Storm gave an insightful talk to our students about her role within Engineering with some valuable insights and tips for those wishing to pursue similar dreams, she shared her route in to engineering after studying Architecture at the University of Bath and then switching to Civil Engineering. She also told the students about some of the projects she has been involved in, including:

  • Currently overseeing the site phase of the Allen Stand at Lord’s Cricket Ground
  • Involved in the early stage design of International Quarter London North, which is a large scale residential development in Stratford and has now been approved for planning.
  • Working on the Krizevac Project and their new technology campus, including a six month sabbatical on site in Malawi overseeing the construction of the first building on the site.

Throughout her talk she discussed the different stages of the design process from initial concept design right through to delivering on site.

Mr Young was delighted to have her back as an Old Hymerian speaker having taught her Physics A Level during her time here. We are extremeley grateful for your time, Storm. Watch this space for the next generation of Engineers you have inspired to follow similar footsteps.
