Yusef Forster, (OH 2007 -17) fundraising for Humber Rescue

We were delighted to hear from Yusef Forster (2007-17) recently about the fundraising work he has been part of for Humber Rescue where he has been a volunteer crew member for over seven years. Since leaving Hymers Yusef has worked in Emergency Service work and has been fundraising for the charity in recent months and achieved a tremendous result.

Last year, Yusef helped organise a fundraiser for the charity:

If someone had told me that Sam and I would help raise more than £310,000 across 3 charity events in one year, I would have laughed and said absolutely no chance. Yet somehow, that’s exactly what has happened. Saturday 22nd November, Sam and I, with the full backing of our crew, pulled off another remarkable evening for Humber Rescue.
620 people in one room, all coming together to support a lifeboat station run entirely by volunteers.

We managed to keep something very special completely secret for months. For the first time in 20 years, we brought together Ian, one of our longest-serving crew members, and Loraine, a little girl he rescued when she was only 18 months old. A rescue that shaped their lives forever. A night Ian has carried with him for two decades. Watching that moment unfold in front of the whole room was something none of us will forget.

To raise £110,000 in one night is incredible. Humber Rescue has no paid staff, no wages, no expenses taken out. Every single pound goes straight back into keeping the charity operational. Thank you to every company who sponsored, and every supporter who attended, donated and shared the night with us or helped make it happen. And to our crew, nothing we do would be possible without you.

Yusef Forster

We hope to welcome Yusef back to school in the upcoming months to speak to our students about the importance of water safety and the work of the emergency services. Keep up the good work, Yusef!
