I was a student at Hymers College from 2013 to 2018, and after leaving school, I went on to study Business Management at Newcastle University, graduating in 2021. I always had a general interest in the business world but wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do.

Shortly after graduating, I moved down to London and found my way into the world of legal recruitment - a field I knew very little about at the time. I worked for two a half years at my first firm, and in March 2024, I made the move to Marsden, thanks to a connection with fellow Old Hymerian, Jonny Marsden, OH 1975-1985, who founded the business in 2004. Marsden is one of the world’s largest legal search firms with 10 offices globally across the UK, US, UAE, Switzerland and Australia. The company acts for major law firms, corporates and financial institutions.

At Marsden, I focus on the legal markets in both London and New York, working with elite US and Magic Circle firms and attorneys. My role involves meeting with partners and recruitment teams to understand their hiring needs, as well as advising associates and partners who are considering their next move. It’s a very people focused job, and no two days are ever the same.

Since joining Marsden, my primary focus has been on growing the US side of the business. This has included regular travel to New York to meet with clients and candidates in person. Looking ahead, I plan to relocate to the US in 2026 to further build our presence on the ground there.

Legal recruitment isn’t a career I’d ever considered when I was at school, mainly because I didn’t know it existed! What I enjoy most about my job is the chance to build genuine relationships with people across the legal industry, and to play a part in helping shape their career paths

If anyone reading this is interested in learning more about the legal recruitment industry, please feel free to send me an email: george.webster@marsdengroup.com
