Life After Hymers |
Dominic Wright (OH 2006-13) has been offered a place to study composition at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, consistently ranked one of the best performing arts institutions in the world.
Dominic suffered many years of serious illness following a tick bite he received in 2015 on a work placement in China.
Since his recovery he has worked to establish himself as a composer with recent highlights including the world premiere of his piece “Waves of Song”, performed by Hull Choral Union in Hull Minster with words by renowned poet Ian McMillan.
In July he raised over £2000 via Kickstarter to produce a recording of his piece “Coronavirus String Quartet”, a musical reflection of the communication issues caused by the pandemic as seen through the lens of Autism Spectrum Disorder.
His music was recently described by double Grammy award-winning composer Christopher Tin (Civilisation video game series) as ‘beautiful’ and ‘most haunting and effective’.
Dominic is very much looking forward to honing his craft and continuing the excellent musical education of which Hymers was an important and inspiring part.
Well done, Dominic!
