Rob Newman, (OH 1987-94) grew up in Hull obsessed by aviation for as long as he can remember. The son of an aircraft engineer at Hawker Siddeley (Now British Aerospace), his ambition was always to fly. Rob perhaps was not the model student at Hymers. Not exactly the sportiest of types and a long time member of the "Extra Z'ds", it's also probable he still hold the record for times on detention in a single year! Rob's time at Hymers did however prepare him for the future and he became an Air Cartographer in the Royal Air Force where he spent nine years.

Whilst not a flying position, it prepared him further and after leaving the RAF and working for two years as an aviation specialist for a survey company supporting ICAO airport licensing, Rob emigrated to the U.S.A where he finally began flight training. After completing the required certifications, Rob became an instructor pilot and soon after began life as an airline pilot. Since then, he has gained multiple aircraft type certificates and flown thousands of hours. Rob now lives in Wisconsin, U.S.A. and is a captain flying private and V.l.P. passengers for Flexjet,

Rob is living proof that a DnD playing nerd who is not all that good at Rugby can still achieve a lifelong dream!
