We were delighted to welcome back Matthew Plaistowe (OH 1993-2002) to speak to our Year 12 students who are considering a career in law. Matthew shared his experience of working in-house at a large City law firm, and the valuable insight this provided including secondment and overseas opportunities. Matthew worked at Norton Rose Fulbright for over 12 years which gave him strong foundation and discipline, before moving in to his current role as Legal Counsel at Cheniere Marketing.
He offered practical advice on gaining work experience, including visiting magistrates’ courts in Beverley and London to try and build on experience and knowledge of law. Matthew also shared his perspective on the soft skills and key attributes he believes are important when recruiting for training contracts and graduate roles, alongside core legal skills such as the ability to skim-read effectively, draft persuasive arguments, and demonstrate strong attention to detail.
As ever, our students were hugely grateful for the time that Matthew gave in his very busy schedule to speak to our 6th formers.
