I am a former student of Hymers College, having attended from 2013 to 2015. I’m writing to share a deeply personal cause and to ask for the support of Hymers and the OH community.In July 2025, my 11-month-old son, Charlie was diagnosed with POLG mitochondrial disorder, a rare and degenerative disease that currently has no effective treatment or cure. However, hope lies in research, that is why I will be running the Yorkshire Marathon on 19 October 2025, along with several other Old Hymerians — to raise vital funds for PolG mitochondria disease foundation's, whose mission are to support and accelerate research to find effective treatments and a cure. I’m reaching out to my old school community because I know how powerful collective support can be.
