Give the gift of Education this Christmas

Are you looking to do something different this Christmas? The cost of not sending Christmas cards, cancelling one gift, or setting up a regular donation would help grow the John Hymers Bursary Fund for one of our transformational bursary places.

Hymers was established under the will of Reverend John Hymers as a school “For the training of intelligence in whatever social rank of life it may be found”.  Since opening in 1893 we have remained true to our founder’s wishes, something that has benefitted all our pupils. We are ambitiously aiming to create a bursary fund large enough to double the number of places we currently offer to provide financial assistance so no child is denied the education they deserve and we are asking for support from our Hymers community.

We do not want Hymers to be a school for the privileged, we are proud of our diverse community and we endeavour to be able to continue with our founder's vision.

Bursary places at Hymers change lives...

"I grew up above a shop on Wold Road in the 70's with four siblings and parents who had little education and many financial difficulties. From Hymers, I went to Oxford, then to Africa as a diamond prospector, and later to the US as a tech entrepreneur. Financial assistance to Hymers opened up that pathway for a thirteen-year-old boy who had no idea he was smart nor the surreal opportunities that lie ahead"

"I received heavily discounted school fees for some time whilst at Hymers and this enabled my parents to keep me in the school. Ensuring I received the best education available was their top priority and I will always be grateful to Hymers for creating this opportunity"

How can I help?

  • Become a regular donor (Example - for approximately every 40 generous donors who Gift Aid £20 a month, one talented young person can join the Hymers family and have the same education as you)
  • Give a one-off gift this Christmas
  • Make a legacy promise in your will

You can do this here - https://www.oldhymerians.com/supportus

If you have any questions, please contact our team at oldhymerians@hymers.org or call us on 01482 347492.

Remember donating to charity is tax-free and we will be able to claim the Gift Aid on your gift enhancing it by 20% if you are a UK taxpayer. Each donor who can make a gift to our Bursary Fund will make a difference. Your donations could give a young person who does not have the financial means the chance of a Hymers education. In the last 12 months, we have been able to offer an additional two places in our 6th Form - to those who would have not been able to attend Hymers had it not been for our generous supporters.

The impact of your gift to help fund a bursary placement at Hymers can transform lives.  We thank you for your generous donations and ongoing support.
