Celebrating 35 years of Co-Ed

2024 sees Hymers celebrate 35 years of co-education at Hymers College
Welcome back to school in 2024!
Welcome back to school in 2024!

Pupils from across the decades are invited to get in touch as Hymers plans to stage a ‘35-years of co-education’ reunion in 2024. The school, which dates back to 1893 is planning a series of events in 2024. We want to get in touch with as many former pupils as possible before we send invites.

Emily Pennack, Development Manager (OH 1989-1995) is looking to hear from anyone who attended Hymers College as a Sixth Former dating back from 1971 to 1989, before the current co-educational Hymers was formed. Our school has a proud history and this has been celebrated with reunions over the years. Until now, we have had distinct groups of old boys and girls, and 2024 is designed to bring as many people as possible together. This will signal the continuation of a campaign to trace as many former pupils as possible, particularly our earliest girls to Hymers.

We are inviting all former pupils to get in touch and we are appealing to people to contact their old school friends to ask them along to the reunion. The reunion provides an ideal opportunity for people to come together and share their memories. Former pupils can gain access to our superb archive stretching back to the founding of Hymers in 1893. It is full of memories such as team photographs, educational records, and memorabilia and has been accessed by many former pupils. We would welcome interest in the archive along with any new items of memorabilia that former pupils may have at home that they would like the school to preserve.

We hope to see many of our former students at our afternoon on Saturday 15 June on the grounds to commemorate the occasion. Lunch will be provided in the form of a buffet style with scones, alongside your choice of a glass of fizz (or two!) and soft drinks. We hope you can make it and will enjoy meeting with many former staff and pupils and enjoy a trip down memory lane with a tour of the school. Do you remember your teachers at school? We have the following teachers already confirmed as attending: Mary Chorlton, Andrew Penny, Paul Meadway, Chris Fitzpatrick, Ian Nicholls, Peter Bingham, Elizabeth Powell and David Vanstone.

You can book your place at our event here.

Anyone interested in attending an event this year or renewing their links with the school should contact the Development Office by email at oldhymerians@hymers.org or call us at 01482 347491. We would be delighted to hear from you.
