The London Marathon has become one of the most talked about events in the sporting calendar, with over 53,000 competitors completing the famous 26.2-mile course from Greenwich to The Mall this year (2024). Every runner, walker and wheelchair athlete has a reason for taking part, whether that’s to set a personal best, raise money for charity, enter the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame or simply get around while making unbeatable memories.
Rob Newton is no different and this year he set his personal best time, completing the course in an amazing time of 2 hours and 35 minutes. This is less than 6 minutes per mile!
I managed to complete the event in 2 hours 35 minutes which was my best time over the marathon. The actual rave went well but I was struggling near mile 22! I've done a few marathons before but this is the first time I've really done a full training block for it. I started training with a group called East Yorkshire Road Runners and they really helped get me in shape for it. I did about 1000 miles of training in the 14 weeks leading up to the event. Definitely enjoying some well-earned rest now before I figure out what's next.
