Memories at Hymers |
We are very thankful for our Year 7 History Club, who are continuing to support us with our research on the World War veterans that we lost in the Second World War. The Year 7s are concentrating on the D-Day Landings ahead of their school assembly to honour the 80th Anniversary in June (2024).
The Year 10 History students are going to use research completed on the OHs during their Battlefields tour in May 2024, when they will visit some of their graves and memorials to pay the school's respects to the fallen of WWI.
The research, so far, on the First World War has found many families that lived locally across the Avenues and the Beverley Road area. One family, the Gresham's, lost three brothers in under two years whom all attended Hymers.

With the support from our students, we hope to be able to research on the loss of Old Hymerians that are named in our Memorial Hall that we honour each Remembrance Service. Using the school's ledgers and copies of The Hymerian in our archives, we can find many references for our Old Hymerians. This research is integral to building our history of the school.
If anyone has any further information about any Old Hymerians lost at war please do reach out to oldhymerians@hymers.org
