As part of a Year 6 English lesson our students (age 10-11 years) are learning how to compose a handwritten letter. We would love to be able to send you their letter by post and for them to receive a reply from an Old Hymerian. Within the letter, the child will tell you about their time at Hymers, and ask you about your time at the school, and what you have done since leaving. This is the fifth year we have run this project and the children always appreciate your replies.
Each child is given the opportunity to read aloud a paragraph from their letter, it's uncanny the ability to the students have to find the funniest section to recount, much to the delight of their friends. Through your replies, we have gained some invaluable information from a range of alumni, including memories from over the decades relating to the history of the school, former staff, and pupils, as well as many photos for our archives.
This annual project is a great introduction for some of our younger students to the Old Hymerians community. We have been overwhelmed in previous years with your generosity of bags of sweets and branded merchandise!
If you have the time to reply to a letter from one of the children, please register via this page or email oldhymerians@hymers.org with your postal address and a letter will be with you in the Summer term.
