What makes this nominee inspiring?

A past Old Hymerian president, John participated in many fundraising events and had a passion for student development. John was a role model for many students aiming to become a doctor. During his 26 years working, he was one of the best A&E consultants in the country revolutionising pre-hospital care with his input in ambulance training and triaging of patients, helping to shape emergency medicine in Hull and the country. Some extraordinary stories include John flying by helicopter to treat a patient who was working on an off-shore oil rig. He would also locum at the prison and help rugby teams in his spare time. After retiring, he wrote a book called The Little Red Bike about his life as a doctor in East Yorkshire.
