1953 - 1960
When Alan became director of the Everyman Theatre in Liverpool he transformed it into one of the leading British theatres outside of London. Several stars of the future, including Antony Cher, Julie Walters et al, benefited from Alan's direction and guidance. Moreover the Everyman Theatre became literally for everyman, not just the theatre-going élite.
